Keratin - What is it?

Keratins are a class of structural proteins with unique physical, chemical, and biological characteristics that are designed to promote soft and hard tissue repair and regeneration by providing an environment to support the body's natural healing process.

KeraNetics has licensed numerous patents for methods of purifying keratin proteins and applications for regenerative medicine and trauma.

KeraNetics’ proprietary processing methods include production of oxidized and reduced proteins that can be further processed into purified sub-types.

Purification gives unique properties not present in keratins produced using other processes.

Keratins can be engineered into the following material forms:

  • Coatings
  • Fibers
  • Foams
  • Films
  • Gels
Why Keratin?
  • Keratins are unique structural proteins with valuable physical, chemical and biological characteristics.
  • Human derived.
  • Keratin’s biocompatibility gives it distinct advantages over other “natural” and synthetic biomaterials.
  • Naturally reabsorbed by the body, negating the need for removal following medical procedures.
  • Keratins are extremely safe by ISO 10993 testing.
  • Tunable dergradation rate.
  • Acts as a controlled release system.
